	This website, along with all the events held at the Chackbay-Choupic fairgrounds, are sponsored by the Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department. Fundraisers and donations are our only means of funding as we receive no governmental funds. Our biggest fundraiser is the LA Gumbo Festival held annually at our state-of-the-art fairgrounds on the fourth full weekend of October.
		The Chackbay-Choupic community is currently composed of 5,000 to 6,000 residents. Our community is 50% residential, 45% agricultural/undeveloped and 5% commercial. All events held at the fairgrounds are used to provide fire and emergency protection to the community.
	Our volunteer organization is made up of 52 firefighters which includes 20 rescue personnel from our community and is run by an elected board of directors. During hurricanes, floods, and other disasters we provide disaster aid. We have a highly trained rescue squad composed of 1 Registered Nurse (RN), 2 Paramedics (EMT-P), 6 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-B), and 11 First Responders that handle auto accidents and medical emergencies.
